About Pittsburgh Pirates |
| |
Originally an independent ballclub the team known as the Allegheny played baseball from 1882-1886. In 1887, the franchise switched to the older National League and then changed their team name to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (after a suburb outside of Pittsburgh). In 1890, after the majority of the team jumped over to the Pittsburgh Burghers of the Players League, the franchise changed their name again to the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates have won five World Series Titles (1909, 25, 60, 71 & 79), nine NL Pennants (1901, 02, 03, 09, 25, 27, 60, 71 & 79) and nine Eastern Division Titles (1970, 71, 72, 74, 75, 79, 90, 92 & 92)
The franchise has played in 6 different ball parks, Exposition Park I (1882-1883), Recreation Park (1884-1890), Exposition Park II (1891-1909), Forbes Field (1909-1970), Three Rivers Stadium (1970-2000) and PNC Park (2001-present)
